Phil is primarily an acoustic player. The one thing that holds true for each of his guitars is that each one has a story behind it. He's a guy who values relationships over things, and when he asked me to buld a special guitar for him, I was honored. He had a close friend whose mother had passed away. This friend's mother was an avid wood carver and turner, and she had loads of wood stashed away in her shop. Phil acquired some but didn't have an exact plan for any of it. Unfortunately, his friend then passed away, and Phil thought that building a guitar out of the wood he'd acquired would be a nice way of remembering him.
Since he's mainly an acoustic guy, he left the details up to me. Here's what we came up with:
- 25.5" scale
- 1 piece pine body
- Maple neck with pau ferro fretboard
- Hand-wound PAF neck pickup and noiseless T-style bridge pickup
- Wilkinson bridge with compensated brass saddles
- Gotoh tuners
- CTS pots
- Switchcraft switch and jack
